The 20 metre high sand dunes cover 5 kilometres of coastline separating the cane fields from the beach. The area was declared as a National Park in 1989 and has a rich ecological and archaeological history. The Visitor Centre displays archaeological skeletons and Lapita pottery excavated from site.Much of the area is unstable however the circular hiking trail crossing the dunes is great for long or short walks and offers excellent views of the coast and vegatation.
